Tree & Shrub Maintenance

Spring
Pruning is where plant identification, timing, and technique meet. Early spring is the best time to prune and fertilize most deciduous trees and shrubs, especially those that flower and fruit.
Incorrect pruning can result in the loss of blooms, fruit, disease, and brittle plants, so it's crucial to work with experienced pruning experts.
We specialize in a variety of pruning techniques, including espalier, cloud-pruning, topiary, hedging, and rejuvenation for small-to-medium trees and shrubs. Regular pruning and fertilizing can help correct the shape and promote longevity of a neglected tree or shrub.

Summer
While some woody perennials can be pruned in summer, the primary task is pest and disease treatment. We observe all the trees and shrubs on a client's property to detect early signs of pending issues. This allows us to minimize damage and maximize treatment efficacy.
Summer is also a great time to pull soil back from trunks, net fruiting trees, and remove suckering branches.

Autumn
Meticulous care in spring and summer will help provide that gorgeous autumn color we all look forward to.
This is the time to administer a slow-release fertilizer to your trees and shrubs. Evergreens require an extended-release soil acidifier as well. We also like to set up winter protection for tender evergreens in colder areas, such as burlap covers.
Evergreens like boxwoods and yews tend to lose moisture through their leaves over the winter, which results in browned sections the following year. We prevent this by applying natural sealants to foliage at the very end of the season. Properly preparing your trees and shrubs for winter will encourage lush flowers and foliage in the coming season.
